International President of LaSertoma, Lynn Shomaker of Ohio, attended the Chatham Goodfellows 61st Annual General meeting to celebrate Chatham LaSertoma’s 53 years of dedicated service with Chatham Goodfellows.
Chatham LaSertoma received their charter in 1959. Originally, the club was a totally female club. As time went on, men became active within the club.
LaSertoma’s mission is: To enhance the lives of all persons and to promote youth and education through public awareness as we strive to be “Leaders in service to Mankind.”
Chatham LaSertoma’s first donation to Chatham Goodfellows in 1962 was $75.00. The proceeds came from a fashion show sponsored by the Chatham LaSertoma at Kinsmen Auditorium; the Admission $1.00.
No matter the circumstances, Chatham LaSertoma has not missed a year of donating to The Chatham Goodfellows. Beginning in 1985 Chatham LaSertoma were donating $1500.00 annually. Even though the economics and membership levels fluctuated the club remained committed, and strong. Volunteering has also been a priority each year with several members packing toys, food, selling papers, etc.
Chatham LaSertomas’ wish is that in some small way they have done their part in ensuring “No Child Without a Christmas”.
